10 Simple Christmas Crafts for Toddlers

Christmas Crafts for Toddlers

When you have kids Christmas becomes even more magical. It’s a beautiful time of the year when you can spend more quality time with your loved ones. In this post, I’m sharing 10 simple Christmas crafts for toddlers. But it’s not only about creating decoration but imagination, exploration, and discovery.

Benefits of Creating Christmas Crafts with Your Toddler

  • They learn about Christmas traditions
  • They can explore various materials, colors, and textures
  • They work on fine motor skills, sensory perception, and cognitive abilities
  • They sharpen hand-eye coordination
  • They build creativity and imagination
  • They work on concentration and patience
  • They learn easy math concepts, color and pattern recognition

The most important thing is bonding with your kids and making beautiful memories together. These memories will contribute significantly to a child’s sense of self and security. Both you and your kids will treasure these moments for years to come.

Tips for a Successful Christmas Crafts Session with a Toddler

  • Prepare all materials. Make sure you have everything you need before you start. And have only the amount you need for specific craft.
  • Organize the crafting area. The clean area that designated only for crafts. Limit distractions like toys or books close by the art station.
  • Choose age-appropriate crafts. For toddlers, it has to be super simple. Sometimes when I do research I see posts about crafts for toddlers but the article contains more advanced ideas.
  • Set a realistic time frame. I would say 5-10 minutes. Pick one project at a time to not overwhelm the child.
  • Find the perfect timing. You know your child best. I always make sure art and craft is:
  1. after a nap, so he is not tired
  2. after food, so is not hungry
  3. after physical activity, so he is not a ball of energy
  • Use washable materials. I don’t have to explain this one. Doing crafts with a toddler is always messy.
  • Be patient. It may not be easy to do crafts with toddlers, especially if they are not familiar with some materials. They may get distracted and not be able to follow directions.
  • Explain the process. You say what has to be done and then show him/her exactly what and how to do it. What’s seems easy and logical for us, it may not be for a toddler.
  • Use positive reinforcement. To encourage your toddler say yay, good job… like a lot.
  • Let it be. Teach your child to follow instructions but also leave some room for creativity. Let the kid decide which materials to use and how to use them.
  • Provide choices. Toddlers cooperate better when they feel like they are a part of the decision-making process. They will be more encouraged and focused when allowed to pick a color or material.
  • Celebrate the finished product. It may not be a perfect piece of art. But for you and your little one is something special. I’m sure your fridge has enough space for new art.
